It had to happen at some point. A company builds a microsite and forgets that someone else can buy up the URL at some point in the future.
Now it’s happened in Germany. A customer has walked innocently into a porn site.
This was something we predicted when we at the Mobile Codes Consortium were lobbying for the adoption of the QR codes.
Although the QR code may get tarnished here, the real issue is that old microsite URLS must not be forgotten and neglected. Just like old photos on the internet, they may re-emerge when you least want them to. The only difference the QR code makes is that the user is unlikely to see the URL they are being directed to.
